Avoiding Minor Repairs around the home

Here are a few tips to avoid having to call a tradesman out to fix Minor Repairs around the home.

  1. Avoid switching off Combi Boiler and Central Heating system for long periods of time. Switching all your radiator thermostats to the frost settings will allow a small amount of warm water to flow around the system. This will mean that the copper pipes will not be prone to freezing up. Contraction and expansion of pipes from extremes of weather can accelerate leaks in the central heating system.
  2. Regularly bleed your radiators with a radiator key. A small turn of the nut at the top of your radiators with the correct key will allow trapped air to be expelled from your central heating system. A small amount of water will come out, so have a water container and towel ready. This will keep the water flowing efficiently and allow the correct water pressure around the system.
  3. Top up the water pressure in your Combi Boiler. When you see the pressure go into the red on your combi boiler system, find the filler tap (usually underneath) and turn it to allow some water into the system. Once the pressure has gone back into the green, turn off the filler tap. This will keep the pressure correct in the system, and allow efficient flow, which will stop many unnecessary faults.
